Found this great video clip on the future of Canadian Basketball courtesy of The Score and @canadianballers. It features our boys Tristan Thompson and Myck Kabongo.
“I left Nigeria to get this…paid off.” -Godwin
I could spend this blog post talking about how Season 3 almost never happened. I could spend this blog post complaining about the equipment I wish I had so I could do this “right”. I could talk about how sticking with this story is a bad career move, and that I should focus my talents elsewhere. I could talk about those things, but not today.
Today, for me personally, is a day of celebration. I am finally able to bring you the 20th episode of my personal project, THE SEASON. It has been one of the hardest projects I’ve taken on, and to see it bloom to #20 just feels fantastic. I never EVER would have thought I’d still be doing this, even after the very first episode. Twenty?
They say the first hump is always the hardest to overcome. Well, I’m over the hump and now it’s time to get rolling. So I bring you today Episode #20 of THE SEASON, my webumentary on the Findlay College Prep program. I am proud to say that no other journalist or photographer is going to get you inside this program like THE SEASON will. It’s my goal to give you the best look at one of the premier high school basketball institutions in the nation. Here’s a short list of what I have prepared in the coming months:
+ Nigel Williams-Goss
+ 24/7 with Nick Johnson
+ Findlay Vs. Jack Yates High School
+ “Oh, Canada!” Part 3
And you know we’ll be with the Pilots during the post season. So please, continue to support and share. More than anything, thank you for watching.
Got this dunk of Nick Johnson driving the lane against Melbourne Basketball (Austrailia) last night and shared it with PointGuardU. In the 2nd half, Nick asked me, “Did you get my two dunks?” He must be fast cause I only caught this one. My bad Nick. Next time.
So we’re doing some slight episode shuffling. What was previewed as Episode #19 will actually end up being #21. Here is our “clip show“, giving you just a few slices of the 2009/10 Findlay Prep season. When seen altogether it reminds me how long that season really was. Oh, don’t forget to catch the tease for our twentieth episode which I’m calling “The Torch”. We’ll get to see Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph and Godwin Okonji get their diplomas at the very last graduation at the Henderson International School. Stay tuned and thanks for watching.
“Where are the videos?”
“What’s with the highlights?”
“Where are the interviews you talked about?”
“WHAT GIVES DONNIE?!”
All valid questions.
Let me start off by saying I love all the emails, twitter messages and YouTube subscriptions I’ve been getting. It’s great to see people have an interest in my view of the Findlay program. In fact it seems the interest for this team is even higher than years past (the view numbers from Episode #18 kinda surprised me).
Shooting Season 2 was a ton of work, but it was a lot of fun. From the first day of conditioning all the way to the ESPN Rise Championships in Baltimore, MD, putting together those 18 episodes was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced in regards to video. After the season ended, I thought to myself…
“How can I keep it fresh for next year?”
“How can I extend my viewership?”
“HOW CAN I GET FUNDING?!”
Ultimately I’ve always felt THE SEASON could be so much more than what you’re seeing. I’ve been working with people to try to expand the video beyond just YouTube and this wordpress blog. So in addition to shooting this current Findlay team, I’m trying to market THE SEASON to advertisers, TV networks and anyone that can help take it to the next level.
Plus, I now have both a part-time and full time job. Ultimately that’s the reason I have yet to post any new content. That doesn’t mean I’m not shooting. Outside of the game against Rise Academy, I’ve been at every home game. My desk right now is littered with DV tapes going all the way back to May. I just recently spent 4 hours going through all of them trying to log interviews and b-roll footage.
The team will be heading to Peoria, IL for the State Farm Tournament Of Champions later today. Please check out the coverage from my brother Eric over at IllinoisPrep as he will be documenting the Findlay team on the road this weekend.

I’m trying to do more highlights this year. Don’t worry, we’re still going to actually talk to the Pilots this year. And we’re going to step away from the basketball court plenty of times. THE SEASON hasn’t changed. Since it’s been months since I’ve posted any new video, I thought I’d start Season 3 with highlights from the opener against Impact Academy.
I’m working on putting together some highlights from two games against Stoneridge. The first game started an hour late and I had to go to work, so I only got the first half. The goal is to have the season premiere up before December 1st. I’ve got so much stuff to show you guys it’s crazy. From Nigel Williams-Goss’ AAU games this past summer to Myck Kabongo arriving at the house for the first time.
Stay with us.
